Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
